CONSTRUCTION (VET) 

Who Should Study This Course 

Students who are interested in pursuing a career in the construction industry or wanting to continue building skills from Stage 5 Industrial Technology (though not a pre-requisite). Possible occupations include building, concreting, shop fitting, bricklaying and carpentry. 

 

Course Description 

This course is designed for students who wish to develop knowledge and skills to commence a career and be an effective employee in the construction industry. 

Students who are assessed as competent in sufficient units will be eligible for a full Certificate qualification; partial completion will lead to a Statement of Attainment. 

 

What Students Learn 

Students will develop basic skills (measuring, forming up, how to read technical drawings etc.) and to function on a work site and learn to work as part of a team which includes communication skills required for participation in the workplace, the community and in adult education and training. Language, literacy and numeracy, or LLN, is the traditional way of referring to the ability to speak, listen, read and write in English, and to use mathematical concepts.

Hospitality Kitchen Operations (VET) 

Who Should Study This Course 

Students that are interested in food service “Front-of-house”, meaning serving the public and gaining basic skills in an industry standard kitchen setting. Possible job titles include bar attendant, café attendant, catering assistant, food and beverage attendant, front office assistant, porter room attendant. 

 

Course Description 

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who have a defined and limited range of hospitality operational skills and basic industry knowledge. They are involved in mainly routine and repetitive tasks and work under direct supervision. This qualification provides a pathway to work in various hospitality settings, such as restaurants, hotels, motels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafés, and coffee shops. Students who are assessed as competent in sufficient units will be eligible for a full Certificate qualification; partial completion will lead to a Statement of Attainment. 

 

What Students Learn 

Students will learn how to wait on tables, set up for functions, take orders from guests, prepare and serve a range of hot and cold beverages and follow direction in a kitchen using various tools and equipment.  They will learn to work as part of a team which includes communication skills required for participation in the workplace, the community and in adult education and training. Language, literacy and numeracy, or LLN, is the traditional way of referring to the ability to speak, listen, read and write in English, and to use mathematical concepts.

Manufacturing & Engineering (VET) 

Who Should Study This Course 

Students selecting this course should be interested in working in a manufacturing environment. They should be able to use hand and power tools, lift and carry small and large objects. There will be out of class homework, research activities and assignments. Students who are interested in pursuing a career as a fitter, machinist, refrigeration and air conditioning mechanic, toolmaker, maintenance fitter or locksmith would find this course valuable. 

 

Course Description 

This course is designed for students who wish to develop knowledge and skills to commence a career and be an effective employee in the engineering and manufacturing industry. Students who are assessed as competent in sufficient units will be eligible for a full Certificate qualification; partial completion will lead to a Statement of Attainment. 

 

What Students Learn 

Students will develop basic skills on how to work safely using a range of tools and equipment, perform computations, organize and communicate information, and how to develop a career plan for the manufacturing and engineering industry.  Students will learn to work as part of a team which includes communication skills required for participation in the workplace, the community and in adult education and training. Language, literacy and numeracy, or LLN, is the traditional way of referring to the ability to speak, listen, read and write in English, and to use mathematical concepts.

Sport Coaching (VET) 

Who Should Study This Course 

This is an HSC VET course. This subject will not count towards an ATAR but students who complete all modules will receive a Certificate III in Sports Coaching. This course is suitable for students with an interest in sport, developing leadership qualities and students pursuing a career in sports, coaching, officiating or administration. 

 

Course Description 

This qualification provides a pathway to work in community coaching roles working or volunteering at community-based sport clubs and organisations in the Australian sport industry as coaches, officials and administrators. 

 

What Students Learn 

Students learn to Identify risk and apply risk management processes, provide first aid, participate in workplace health and safety, wwork in a community coaching role, conduct sport, fitness or recreation events, facilitate inclusion for people with a disability and respond to emergency situations.

Business Services (VET) 

Who Should Study This Course 

This course is recommended for students who wish to pursue a career in: office administration, management and administration; human resource management; sales marketing and advertising; and accounting and finance. This course is recommended to any student who is interested in a career working in an office environment. 

 

Course Description 

Business Services is offered as a 2 Unit course in Year 11 and in Year 12. It is based on the National Training Package. The course is designed to provide students with appropriate learning opportunities that will enable them to acquire a range of technical, personal and interpersonal skills specifically related to business services but applicable to other service industries and careers. In addition, Business Services is tied to NESA HSC requirements. Students can achieve a Business Services Certificate II and have the choice to sit for the HSC examination. 

 

What Students Learn 

Business Services student learn a range of skills related to office administration, customer service and WHS (Work health and Safety). Students learn specific skills in office computer applications such as MS Word, MS Excel, MS Publisher and a range of web-based applications. Students become proficient in email, computer file storage and management including organisational skills. They also learn to work as a team in office environments at school and at work placement.

Retail Services (VET) 

Who Should Study This Course 

This course is available for students who wish to pursue a career in the retail environment. Students who are people persons and love to interact with people would be best suited to this subject. This subject can lead into employment including, customer service assistant, stock controller, salesperson, visual merchandise and merchandise manager. 

 

Course Description 

Retail Services is offered as a 2 Unit course in Year 11 and in Year 12. It is based on the National Training Package. The course is designed to provide students with appropriate learning opportunities that will enable them to acquire a range of technical, personal and interpersonal skills specifically related to business services but applicable to other service industries and careers. Retail Services can also be accessed at TAFE and is a national qualification. In addition, Retail Services is tied to NESA HSC requirements. Students can achieve a Retail Services Certificate III and have the choice to sit for the HSC examination. 

 

What Students Learn 

In Retail Services students learn a range of skills related to the retail environment through hands on experience including, customer service and WHS (Work health and Safety). Students learn specific skills in customer service, merchandise, displays, security and handling customer complaints. They also learn to work as a team in retail environment at school and at work placement.
