On Wednesday 9/2/2022 Cessnock High School hosted a Year 7, Year 8, SEEK and competitors only swimming carnival. The carnival was a great success many students making a splash in the race for age championships, qualifying for the zone team and the overall championship house.
Mr Bell and the PDHPE faculty would like to sincerely congratulate all students who attended the carnival. The behaviour and sportsmanship were outstanding. We would like to especially thank Miss Thompson and her Year 11 Sports Coaching students, who assisted with timing, running race sheets, marshalling and other duties. They were great roles models and leaders for our junior students.
The next great highlight of the day was the 12 Years, 13 Years, 14 Years and 15 Years Girls age group competitors. Collectively, these girls swam almost every race providing the spectators with some competitive races for the day. It was wonderful to see so many young girls engaging in competitive sport. No doubt they would have been exhausted come the end of the day.
As always, the SEEK faculty lead by Miss Lewis and her team added a wonderful layer of participation, encouragement and inclusion to the carnival. SEEK swimming captain Jack Moore lead the way competing in all events available, including more challenging races such as the 50m Butterfly and the 100m Freestyle. Other standout performance from SEEK included Makayla Balding who backed up for multiple events and Eamon Scanlon who contested the 50m Backstroke.
Students accrued points by placing in events and competition in multiple events throughout the day. At the end of the day the following students were awarded age champions.
