COVID LEARNING GUIDELINES FOR STUDENTS
To be implemented by Wednesday August 19 (close of business)
Good morning Parents/Caregivers,
Yesterday I received updated documents relating to COVID restrictions for schools that must be implemented by close of business Wednesday August 19 (this week). I have attached the complete document; however, I have outlined below the changes to the restrictions and what the community needs to be aware of before Wednesday afternoon, and what it means for students at Cessnock High School and their family. If you have any questions or require clarification, please don’t hesitate in contacting me at the school.
1. Students presenting as unwell:
If a student is exhibiting cold or flu like symptoms at school they must immediately be sent to the sick bay. Students then must be picked up by a parent/caregiver and gain testing. Students only return to school if :
a) the testing comes back negative and the school is presented with a copy of the paperwork.
b) The student has recovered from the illness and have the paperwork to support the recovery. Please understand that this is the same for students, whose reason for absence is for cold and flu like symptoms and did not present to school.
This is a DoE Mandate that I must implement.
2. Wearing of masks Students are now able to wear masks to school if they wish.
However, the DoE will not be supplying masks, and it isn’t compulsory. Cessnock High School will support students who wish to wear masks to school, as per NSW Health Guidelines, for health reasons.
3. Year Twelve and the end of school
The new restrictions will have an impact on year twelve, their graduation assembly, last week activities and formal. Year 12 graduation ceremony will be held at 2.15 pm on the last Friday of term 3. Only Year 12 students and staff will attend. At present the formal is still planned for Wednesday 11th November at Ben Ean Estate, however it will only run from 6 to 8 pm, with no public allowed on site.
Take care and thank you to everyone, for your ongoing support.
